The French Connection

Galway has been twinned with Lorient, France as part of the twintowns initiative since 1975. In june 1995 St. Patricks Band was invited to France by the Lorient committee to attend their 20th anniversary celebrations of the twinning of Galway and Lorient.

The band accepted the invitation and represented Galway there in July of that year. This was the bands first overseas trip in it's long history and as the band is a totally voluntary group not associated with any other organisation, it relied on the generosity of the public for the necessary funds to cover the costs.

The trip was deemed to be such a great success and subsequent trips were planned, and the band were delighed to play host to a French deligation from Lorient the following year. See the Photo gallery for some of the snaps.

In March 2003, Lorient, once again invited St. Patrick's Band to visit in order to take part in its St. Patrick's Day Week-end celebrations which were hosted by the Du Scorff Band. And of course the band scheduled its trip such that it will be back in Galway for the St. Pactrick's day parade on the 17th.
